MENTZENDORFF KUMMEL 50CL 38%
MENTZENDORFF KUMMEL 50CL 38%
Pure Grain distillate, effectively a Vodka, infused with Carraway Seed flavour. This caraway based liqueur is tremendously popular at golf clubs, apparently, due to seeds relaxant properties. Not that the potent 39% alcohol content has anything to do with it of course!
Its pronounced Kim-mel, stressing the Kim by the way.
Its powerful, lifted aromas of aniseed, liquorice and cumin. Sweet but with a clean, crisp finish. A wonderful way to end a meal, Kummel - served ice cold - is a great digestif.
Its history is long and fascinating, tracing its roots back over four centuries. Kummel is a schnapps-like liqueur flavoured with a type of caraway seed. The whistle-clean spicy flavours blend superbly with the just off-dry spirit.
Background: Mentzendorff Kummel was founded in 1823 in Riga, Latvia. As Allasch Kummel it was widely imitated throughout Europe and much respected.
Nowadays Menzendorff Kummel is distiled by Combier in the Loire in their world-famous distillery.
Its full of Aniseed with hints of orange zest initially, followed by a sweetness on the palate combined with caraway flavours and a hint of white pepper. The finish has a note of fresh liquorice.
